Fairbairn Guest Farm offers rooms with private entrance, desk, and wardrobe. Some units include a satellite flat-screen TV and a fully equipped kitchen with microwave. The private bathroom has a bath and hair dryer. Free WiFi and free private parking are provided. The property is wheelchair accessible and has facilities for disabled guests.
Dining
A continental breakfast is served daily. Guests can also order packed lunches. Homemade dinners are available on request - past guests have praised the pot roast with vegetables and mava pudding with cream. The breakfast is made to order and served in a separate wood-heated room with mountain views.
Leisure
Guests can cycle and hike nearby. The farm has a garden with BBQ facilities, an outdoor fireplace, and a picnic area. Kids' outdoor play equipment and board games are available. There is a shared lounge/TV area and a shared kitchen. For quiet evenings, star gazing is popular.
Location
Fairbairn Guest Farm is situated in Maclear, 100 km from Mthatha Airport. The access road is a 14 km gravel track - a vehicle with good suspension or 4WD is recommended. The farm is surrounded by mountains, cows, sheep, and birdlife. It is a peaceful stopover for those traveling to or from Naudesnek Pass.
Services
Room service is available, and daily housekeeping is included. The hostess Linky and staff are noted for their attentiveness - they will set up a braai (BBQ) and light the fire for you. Meeting/banquet facilities and ironing/laundry services are offered. Special diet menus and kids' meals can be arranged.
“The setting here is truly spectacular, a visual feast unfolding with every turn of the drive, though be mindful of the road's rugged character. Inside, a comforting warmth emanates from the wood stove, a perfect counterpoint to the stunning natural beauty outside. The hospitality, marked by thoughtful touches like a pre-lit fire and helpful hosts, elevates the entire experience.”
